They first began brewing beer in 1986.  That year, the company produced 1,500 barrels of beer. Today, they brew  over 80,000 barrels of beer annually and 5,000 barrels of root beer  annually.<sup id=\"cite_ref-5\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abita_Brewing_Company#cite_note-5\">[6]<\/a><\/sup> <sup id=\"cite_ref-6\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abita_Brewing_Company#cite_note-6\">[7]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Abita Golden, Abita Amber, Abita Purple Haze, and Abita Turbodog are  sold in various markets across the United States and Puerto Rico. Abita  Brewing Company is the 17th largest Craft Brewery and the 31st largest  brewery of any category in the United States ranked by volume sold in  2007.<sup id=\"cite_ref-7\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abita_Brewing_Company#cite_note-7\">[8]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The company brews its beer with water from artesian wells in Abita  Springs. They produce several types of beer year round, and also produce  a series of seasonal beers.
